Sean Turner hoping to make favourable Con-parison on Belfast show
Sean Turner [9(6)-0] makes a step up next weekend on the first Ginley Promotions bill, and the Dublin heavyweight is predicting a statement-making win.
‘Big Sexy’ will box over eight rounds against Plymouth-based Pole Kamil Sokolowski [2(0)-9(2)-2] at the Devenish Complex in Belfast on Friday March 3rd.
It’s a first eight rounder for the heavy-hitter, and a perfect opponent in more ways than one.
The game Eastern European looks to be the toughest test of Turner’s career so far, and the Dublin big man told Irish-Boxing.com that “it will be a good fight, even though he doesn’t have a great record. He’s in good shape, he’s fit, and he can have a go.”
Sokolowski fought another Irish heavyweight, Tipperary’s Con Sheehan, back in November, taking one round and a sharing another with the former amateur star in a competitive clash. With Turner and Sheehan a potential Irish title clash for this Summer, the opportunity for comparison is not lost on Big Sexy.
The 25 year old described how “we’ll see how I get on against him, and it will build me and Con Sheehan’s fight up. I think that he will suit me better than he did Con because he’ll stand in front of me. If I stop him it would make a statement, obviously.”
“I think I could stop him, I think he’s very slow. He comes forward, he’s durable, and he can do the rounds, but he wont be able to take my power and bodyshots I don’t think.”
“I’ve been working the bodyshots in sparring instead of head-hunting all the time.”
