Sean McComb targeting Olympic qualification

While his team mates are currently punching up a storm at the European Championships in Bulgaria, Sean McComb is busy preparing for the World Championships in Qatar this October.

The Belfast lightweight was unable to participate at the ongoing European Championships due already having qualified for the World Championships via the European Games. At these Games McComb was one of Ireland’s break-out stars, winning a bronze medal and running the legendary Albert Selimov close in the semi finals.

Originally one of the lesser-known ‘Belfast Boys,’ the Holy Trinity BC southpaw is now one of Irish amateur boxing biggest stars, and he told irish-boxing.com that “there was a good wee bit of publicity around the European Games, it’s good to finally get a breakthrough!”

If McComb can replicate his third place finish from the European Games this October in Doha he will secure early qualification for next year’s Rio Olympics – a tough task, but Siúcra Sean is up to the challenge, revealing that “I’m very confident!”
