Ryan Burnett Set For Showdown With Zolani Tete At WBSS
Lots of fans in the boxing world have been eagerly anticipating the second season of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS). The first edition went off with a bang, with the super middleweight and cruiserweight divisions being involved, and this time round, a new weight has been added. There will now be a bantamweight tournament, and this will feature three champions up to now, making the series incredibly tasty from the outset.
Belfast’s Ryan Burnett, 25, is one of the champions set to take part, with Zolani Tete and Manny Rodriguez confirmed as participants too. Burnett, who has a record of 19 fights, 19 wins, with 9 by the way of knockout, currently holds the WBA Super bantamweight title, and now looks set for a showdown against Tete who has the WBO title in his possession as things stand.
There has long been talk of Burnett and Tete meeting in the ring, especially with the South African’s last two fights happening at the SSE Arena in Belfast on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s last two bouts. One potential stumbling block, which should now no longer be a problem due to the WBSS, is the fact that Burnett is represented by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom boxing, while Tete is looked after by Frank Warren.
While all participants in the eight-man tournament are yet to be confirmed, the World Boxing Super Series certainly presents undefeated Burnett with the most lucrative and best opportunity of his promising career so far. He’s always been known as a fighter that wants to test himself against the best in the bantamweight division, and it’s also a great opportunity to unify the world titles.
It’s believed that Burnett’s first bout in the competition is set to take place at the SSE Arena in Belfast in September, with Belfast born bantamweight winning there on the two occasions in which he has competed. Furthermore, the promotor of the World Boxing Super Series, Kalle Sauerland, has revealed that at some point Burnett could end up fighting over in the USA too. One thing is for certain, wherever and whenever he fights, boxing fans will be able to use Betting.com’s comprehensive listing of online betting sites; to place their bets on the match.
Speaking ahead of the WBSS, Burnett said “I have always wanted to unify the world titles against the best opposition out there.” He went on to say, “I proved this in my last three fights and now the World Boxing Super Series allows me to continue my dream against the other champions in the bantamweight division.” These are certainly encouraging words from the Matchroom boxer, who will be putting it all on the line, in order to take all when the tournament kicks off.
Burnett’s trainer and manager, Adam Booth, also recognised that the WBSS will be good for his fighter as he looks to unify the division. He said, “Competition at the highest level is any fighter’s dream.” He also added, “The World Boxing Super Series is providing this at bantamweight; Ryan’s ready to face all champions and challengers.”
