Ryan Burnett: “Next Stop – The Odyssey”
Ryan Burnett [15(9)-0] is desperate to bring a big boxing show to his home city of Belfast.
The British bantamweight champion defended his belt for the first time last weekend, travelling to Liverpool to take on local favourite Ryan Farrag at the Echo Arena
Now Burnett wants to fight in front of his home fans and has revealed that he is pressuring his team to bring the Sky Sports cameras across the Irish Sea and into the biggest indoor arena in Belfast.
Burnett told the Frank Mitchell show on U105 that “after getting a win at the weekend, everything seems to be going well.”
“I’m pushing my manager [Adam Booth] to get me my own show in Belfast. A lot of my fights are away so I’ve been pushing, and pushing, and pushing, because I want to bring a big show to Belfast, I want to bring Sky TV to Belfast. That’s my plan.”
“I keep phoning up my promoter [Eddie Hearn] and I keep telling him ‘look, we need to go to Belfast, everyone wants a big show in Belfast.’ That’s what I’m pushing for. My promoter said that we’ll definitely have a show in Belfast, we’re just waiting for the right fight to come along and next stop – The Odyssey.”
