Hearn: Burnett has got to show us we are right to believe in him
Eddie Hearn believes that Ryan Farrag offers the perfect opportunity for Ryan Burnett to have a “get your teeth into it” fight
The Belfast bantamweight has won the British title during his stint with Matchroom and has had three solid points wins, however Hearn feels that the 24 year old will be given a real acid test against Farrag.
Burnett defends his Lonsdale belt against the Scouser on October 15th, live on Sky Sports, at the Echo Arena on the Tony Bellew-BJ Flores undercard.
Hearn conceded that it may have been tough for Burnett to put on an explosive performance against his previous, overmatched, opposition, and told IFL TV that “Ryan Burnett against a Mexican, for the WBC International, not really, I think that can affect your own performance, if you’re a little bit flat.”
“Now you’ll see Ryan Burnett fight Farrag, in Liverpool, getting booed.”
“Now we’ll see what Ryan Burnett is made of, now we’ll see if he’s as special as we all think he is.”
While not exactly describing the fight as a do-or-die affair, the English promoter wants the Youth Olympic gold medalist to put on a performance that warrants his belief in Burnett’s World class potential, and explained that “we’ve got so many fighters, we need to know how good you are.”
“We’ll give you all the development you need, and then sooner or later you’ve got to show us if we’re right.”
