Rio bound Donnelly takes to the ring in Venzeula tonight

Rio 2016 Olympian Steven Donnelly will meet Hungary’s Balazs Bacskai in Venezuela on Saturday in the World Series of Boxing (WSB).

Donnelly, who qualified for Rio through the WSB last season in the welter class, is slated to line out for the Hussars of Poland versus Balazas, who boxes for Venezuela.

Bacskai claimed a gold medal for his country at the 2010 European Elite Championships at the Ice Palace in Moscow.

Paddy Barnes (gold), Darren O’Neill (silver), Ken Egan (bronze), Eric Donovan (bronze) and Tyrone McCullough (bronze) finished in podium positions for Ireland at the same tournament.

Irish coach Eddie Bolger will be working Donnelly’s corner in South America on Saturday.
