Ricky Nesbitt loses World Universities semi-final
Ireland’s involvement at the World University Championships ended today in Russia.
Dundalk flyweight Ricky Nesbitt became the fourth and final Irish boxer eliminated in Elista following a semi-final loss to Taiwanese puncher Hong Chuan-Hsun.
Having received a bye into the Last Four, Nesbitt was guaranteed a bronze medal without having thrown a punch but he was unable to upgrade to silver as he was beaten on a unanimous decision by Hong
Nesbitt is the only Irish fighter to medal, with Terry McEntee, Sean Purcell, and Matthew McCole having been eliminated in the quarter-finals.
