Return of the Mack-Macklin to fight on
MATTHEW Macklin’s hasn’t hung up his gloves just yet.
Retirement looked a possibility when World rated Irish middleweight was stopped by Jorge Sebastian Hieland on a big Dublin home coming show late last year.
At the time Macklin claimed he wouldn’t rush into any decision and former foe, coach and fellow former Irish title holder Jamie Moore suggested the Tipperary Tornado wasn’t shot but trained too much in 2014 after a Geale bout was canceled and the Heiland clash was postponed.
However, there was a feeling the three time world title challenger might call a halt to a distinguished career and end all hope of a possible showdown with Limerick man Andy Lee.
But today Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn confirmed there will be a return of the Mack on a show topped by former Irish champion Frankie Gavin on May 28.
