RESULTS – The Fantasy Irish Boxing Super Series (FIBSS) – Pro Light Welterweights

The Fantasy Irish Boxing Super Series continued today with another barnstorming tournament.

It was the turn of the pro light welterweights to see who would follow Andy Lee, Carl Frampton, and Michael Carruth as FIBSS champion

Borrowing from the game-changing World Boxing Super Series format, eight fighters were virtually pitted against each other in a single-elimination knockout tournament.

After a day of polls, former Commonwealth champion and Belfast cult hero Eamonn Magee came out on top.

The Dubliner defeated Derry’s Paul McCloskey in the final after the pair came through a field that also included Des Rea, Tyrone McKenna, Mark Riggs, Mark Winters, Francie Barrett, and Phil Sutcliffe Jr.

Starting in the quarter finals, Magee scored a unanimous decision win over McKenna while there were stoppages across the board for Barrett, McCloskey, and Winters over Rea, Sutcliffe Jr, and Riggs respectively.

The semis were a one-sided affair, with Magee and McCloskey scoring resounding knockout wins over Winters and Barrett.

That all led to a Battle of the Breen Team in the final, Magee v McCloskey.

The southpaw decider would go the way of ‘The Terminator’ in the end, with Magee scoring a decisive 62% to 38% unanimous decision win in the final poll.
