Replacement opponent confirmed for Tommy McCarthy
Just a short few hours after the withdrawal of Fabio Turchi, a new opponent has been confirmed for Tommy McCarthy [14(7)-2(1)].
The Belfast cruiserweight was due to challenge WBC International champion Fabio Turchi [17(13)-0] in Rome this Thursday night.
However, the Italian home fighter would disappointing pull out today in unclear circumstances.
Thankfully, McCarthy’s spot on the Matchroom Italia and Opi Since 82 card was retained and so too has been his opponent.
It has been announced that the Lenadoon big man will face Francesco Cataldo [7(2)-5(1)] – a surprisingly and refreshingly strong replacement.
37-year-old Cataldo, a local, turned pro back in 2010 and had his biggest fight in 2017 when he was narrowly outpointed by Simeone Federici for the Italian title.
Most recently, in March, Cataldo was outpointed from the away corner in France by Aboulaye Diane.
McCarthy came face-to-face with his new opponent this afternoon and will take to the scales tomorrow ahead of the eight-round non-title clash at the Stadio Nicola Pietrangeli.
The fight will be shown live on Sky Sports.
