Quigley eyes massive Ireland v Mexico Canelo bout down the line
Jason Quigley may be only six fights into his pro career but the Donegal man is already eyeing up a mega fight with Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez down the line.
Quigley’s fledgling career has been progressing steadily under the watchful eye of Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya and the former world amateur silver medalist is rejoicing at the opportunity to work with the boxing legend.
“Oscar really has his eye on me right now. He has all the confidence in the world for me to go ahead and do great things. For a man that’s been there and done it, getting that compliment, gives me even more confidence to keep going, to keep doing what I’m doing, keep working hard.”
The future looks bright for the kid from Ballybofey and he fights in his seventh pro bout in a year when he takes on Tom Howard in Los Angles on Saturday night.
Quigley has a professional outlook and is not looking past his next bout but already he has a dream of a mega fight with Canelo Alvarez further down the line. He has fought on the undercard of the Mexican’s in the past but one day hopes to trade leather with the KO specialist.
“To be on his undercard already and to hopefully fight him in the future, that would be amazing. You can only imagine the Irish fans and the Mexican fans, that would be some atmosphere. But my main goal and my main objective now is July 11. That’s my aim at the minute.”
