Quigg to fight Kiko Martinez and not Frampton on July 18
The man Carl Frampton beat to claim both the European and World title, Kiko Martinez will provide the opposition for Scott Quigg in Manchester on July 18.
Fight fans had hope to see a massive Frampton v Quigg clash this Summer, but negotiations between Cyclone Promotions and Matcroom broke down. Any hopes of a July dust up have now completely gone after news broke today that the Bury fighter would fight the Spaniard.
Martinez (32(24)-5) is no stranger to Irish fight fans after he had Bernard Dunne gone in a round and losing twice to the Jackal. The four time European and former IBF champion also fought in the Stadium and the Devinish against non Irish opposition.
The Spaniard know as ‘Mini Tyson’ in some parts of Ireland is certainly the toughest opponent the Joe Gallagher trained fighter has agreed to face. Indeed, the Sergio Martinez managed super bantamweight has the potential to win big against the Bury man and scupper any hopes of a future Frampton Quigg clash.
