Quigg: McGuigan’s ego is the only thing stopping myself and Carl fighting
BARRY McGuigan is the only stumbling block between a massive Carl Frampton Vs Scott Quigg showdown claims the WBA regular champion.
Quigg told talkSPORT the only thing preventing the domestic dalliance with ‘The Jackal’ is the Irish boxing legend and CEO of Cyclone Promotions.
IBF super bantamweight World champion Frampton has signaled his intent to trade leather with the Matchroom fighter and Team Quigg seem eager to get the bout made, but Quigg claims the McGuigan’s ‘ego’ is preventing any deal.
McGuigan has always claimed he is open to the Quigg clash, and is more than confident Frampton will emerge victorious. However he has always been open about the fact he wants any contract to reflect the fact his charge is the bigger draw, and stressed whilst the Belfast man wants Quigg, Quigg needs Frampton.
Frampton himself has previously suggested that Quigg’s trainer Joe Gallagher was the deal breaker, but Quigg told talkSport despite the fact talks have yet to begun that he believes McGuigan is preventing the fight.
“I want the fight, Carl wants the fight, Eddie wants the fight,” he told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
“The only obstacle not making this fight possible is Barry’s ego. He thinks he runs the show but he doesn’t. That’s the only problem.”
Quigg added no fight would with Frampton take place this year, though, regardless of how negotiations went.
“It won’t be next because apparently Carl’s got a bad hand so he can’t fight until next year. So I’m looking to get one more fight in this year. Hopefully next year it sets up a big fight with me and Carl.”
