Pound for Pound #1 – Ring Magazine make Katie Taylor the greatest female fighter on planet

Katie Taylor [17(6)-0] is the greatest female fighter on the planet according to the respected Ring Magazine.

The were some eyebrows raised, when upon releasing their inaugural Female Pound for Pound #10 back in August, Taylor came in #2.

Those at the Ring felt American three weight world champion Claressa Shields was top spot worthy.

However, just three months later and Taylor has taken the crown. The move up the ladder was made post the Bray stars impressive win over WBA mandatory challenger Miriam Gutierrez at Wembley Arena on Saturday.

The Ring explained Taylor : “made her case to finally be recognized by The Ring as the best female fighter on the planet, regardless of weight class.

“After a vote that included only a few adverse opinions, Taylor has now reached that position, becoming the new queen of the pound-for-pound rankings after an extraordinary display of speed, skills, poise and aggression in her title fight at London’s Wembley Arena.”

Shields has impressed since turning over winning world titles in three weights, but she has struggled to find big name opponents.

Taylor on the other hand holds wins over two fellow pound for pound top 10 names in Jessica McCaskill and Delfine Persoon.

She has also agreed to fight another of those named by the celebrated magazine in Amanda Serrano and was linked to #3 Cecilia Braekhus before she was defeated by McCaskil.

The Ring didn’t release a a revised top 10, rather just confirmed Taylor has been moved to the top of the pile.

If no other changes were made to their inaugural August rankings the magazine’s top 10 reads as follows:

3 – Cecilia Braekhus

4 – Jessica McCaskill

5 – Amanda Serrano
