Peter McDonagh [27(3)-28(2)-1] has been forced out of his fight set for tomorrow night.
The Irish welterweight champion was due to box on the undercard of the Lenny Daws v Anthony Yigit European light welterweight title fight at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Surrey.
Sadly, the Cinderella man has withdrawn due to a virus.
McDonagh told Irish-Boxing.com that he “tried to shrug it off and, as in past, I would have taken the fight as I’ve never pulled out in my life – hence the way my records been.”
“In the past I was a self-managed fighter and I thought like a fighter all the time so I never pulled out.”
However, under advice from his managmenr team, the Galway 39 year old has withdrawn from the fight. McDonagh explained how “I’ve got a great team at MTK and I have been advised by my manger Daniel [Kinahan] that if you’re not right. you’re out.”
“Sorry to all my fans and support, I sold a lots of tickets. I’m thankful to have such great support in my team MTK and my good friend Les Ironman and Capital Seafood LTD. Sorry to Hennessy Sports, my trainer Peter Fury, and Richard Maynard for all the press work he’s done for myself.”
“I will be back soon, hopefully in a bigger and better fight. The Cinderella Man awaits another date to go to the ball.”
