Peter McDonagh calls out Mayweather Promotions star
Today saw the announcement of a big world title fight between IBF super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis and England’s Liam Walsh.
Davis, and promoter Floyd Mayweather, were in London today to official announce the fight which will take place on Saturday May 20th at the Copperbox Arena, live on BT Sport.
With Mayweather’s involvement in the bout, it is expected that other fighters in his stable will feature on the card.
One of these is Ashley Theophane [40(11)-7(1)] former British light welterweight champion and WBA title challenger.
The 36 year old is a divisive figure, and has found himself called out by Irish welterweight champion Peter McDonagh [27(3)-28(2)-1].
The Galway 39 year old is a journeyman-turned-contender, going on an impressive unbeaten streak since linking up with MTK.
McDonagh is hoping for at least one more big fight as he continues his Cinderella Story of a career, and he believes that Theophane will provide that opportunity.
The three-weight Irish champ has began a social media campaign to try and force the contest.
Be great to fight @AshleyTheophane on may 20th card in London who would like to see it RT @boxnationtv @djk256 @BarryJonesBox @JohnRawling

His direct pressure has elicited a response from the Vegas-based Englishman which did not rule out the fight, indeed the fact that he has Retweeted McDonagh would suggest that he is somewhat keen.
@LEllerbe from @MayweatherPromo is dealing with that card. I train & fight. Direct your interest to him @McDonaghPeter.
