Peake, Lawless, Jordan, Henry, Whelan and Weatherall in Euro Junior action today

Six Team Ireland boxers are in action on Day Two of the European Junior Championships today.

Light bantam weight, Carlagh Peake, opens proceeds in bout 3 in the Ring A afternoon session, the Ballyhaunus BC fighter faces Niamh Lorna Mitchell of Scotland. In bout 8, featherweight Siofra Lawless meets Germany’s Mia Penelope Grochau. In bout 10, Team Captain Ava Henry boxers Katrin Ivanovova of the Czech Republic. In Ring B’s afternoon session, in bout 11, Alfie Jordan gets his tournament underway against Germany’s Emal Hamdan.

In Ring A’s evening session, (bout 5), 80kg Jack Teggart Weatherall contests against Germany’s Sofian Bizzit and in the opening bout in Ring B, light welter Kayleigh Whelan meets Hungary’s Victoria Kat Muncz.

Team Ireland recorded four wins from five opening day bouts yesterday.

75kg Mary McDonagh is already assured of at least a bronze medal – she begins her competition at the semi-final stage.

The tournament, being contested by 353 boxers, is being hosted by the Italian Boxing Federation in Montelsilvano. The competitor nations are: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.
