Patrick Hyland World title fight postponed

Patrick Hyland will have to wait a bit longer before fighting for the WBC featherweight title.

The Jobstown puncher was due to face Gary Russell Jr for the American star’s belt on March 12th at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Conneticut.

Unfortunately for ‘The Punisher,’ the scrap has now been shelved after the card’s headline bout, Keith Thurman’s defence of his WBA welterweight title against Shawn Porter was postponed after Thurman withdrew injured.

Florida’s Thurman sustained whiplash in a car crash last week forcing the bout, due to be shown on US terrestrial channel CBS, to be delayed.

There were hopes that the card could have still gone ahead on cable network Showtime, with Hyland-Russell as the headline bout, but this has failed to materialised.

There is yet to be an official announcement regarding reschedueled dates for both Thurman-Porter and Hyland-Russell.

Hyland expressed his disappointment on social media this evening but has vowed to “stay positive and keep working hard.”
