Pandemic Problems – Covid denies Fryers scalp chance

Larry Fryers [11(4)-3(1)] was denied the chance to end 2020 with a massive scalp because of Covid.

The New York based Monaghan fighter was set to trade leather on Top Rank’s Las Vegas card this Saturday night and was penciled in to fight knockout artist Elvis Rodriguez [10(10)-0-1].

However, the fighter Bob Arum heralded as 2020’s best prospect, tested positive for Covid after the weigh in was done and the fight was cancelled as a result.

It’s disappointing for the 30-year-old not only does it deny him a pre Christmas pay day, but he was confident of registering a career changing scalp.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com Fryers said: “I am targeting an upset. I wouldn’t be here if i didn’t believe I could win this fight, so come Saturday night I’m going to put on a show,” he adds before discussing tactics.

“The way I intend on beating him is by bringing him into a dog fight and beating him down.”

“When I beat him it will give me a great platform to go again early next year and get a crack at some other Top Rank Golden Boy namesand keep climbing the ladder.”
