Padraig McCrory tells Eddie Hearn he is Free to Fight Berlanga after Feile

Padraig McCrory [16(9)-0] has told Eddie Hearn he’ll be free to bash Edgar Berlanga later this year.

McCrory’s team were in talks with Matchroom Boxing re-fighting ‘The Chosen One’ at Madison Square Garden only for the New York native to choose a different Irish path and fight former middleweight world title challenger Jason Quigley last weekend.

Speaking before Quigley and Berlanga met in a high-profile fight on top of a DAZN broadcast card, McCrory said he’d like a shot of the winner. So after Matchroom fighter outpointed a gallant Donegal man the Belfast fighter let it be known he’d be willing to face the Puerto Rican followed star later in the year.

He took to social media to let Hearn know of his availability.

McCrory has big business to attend to first. ‘The Hammer’ will top this year’s Feile Fight Night when he takes on Brit Steve Woodhall [18(11)-1-1] at Falls Park on Friday, August 4.

Woodhall should provide another test for the IBO World title winner, and a win in Belfast should see the Conlan Boxing fighter take another step close to a massive fight.

Whether that’s Berlanga remains to be seen, particularly as Hearn suggests he wants something different for his recent signing.

The Essex promoter worries about the undefeated puncher’s profile and wants a ‘big name’ for the former Top Rank prospect with former Dennis Hogan and Spike O’Sullivan foe Jaime Munguia top of his wish list.
