Paddy Barnes moves into Commonwealth semi final via stoppage win

PADDY Barnes moved into the semi finals of the Commonwealth Games with a second successive stoppage win in Glasgow this evening.

The double Olympic medalist, and defending Commonwealth fighter, defeated Charles Keama from Papua New Guinea to win Team Northern Ireland their seventh boxing medal of the games.

Keama was a game foe, but from the off it was clear the World respected Barnes had to much class for the Papua New Guinea 24 year old.

Barnes showed his power in the second and gave his foe two standing eight counts thanks to two beautifully timed right hands.

The workaholic Belfast fighter, showed a more patient side in the final stanza and picked power shots rather than threw in bunches and it paid dividends.

Two more right hands and two more standing eight counts forced the referee to call a halt to proceedings. As a result gold hopeful Barnes secured at least a bronze and a place in the semi final.
