Paddy Barnes handed step-up for Belfast bout next week
Paddy Barnes [1(0)-0] has been handed a nice step-up for his fight next week.
The Belfast flyweight will make the move to eight rounds on the Boxnation card at the Waterfront Hall next Friday [March 10th].
The Irish News have confirmed that his opponent here will be Argentine bantamweight Adrian Dimas Garzon [10(1)-21(9)].
The 40 year old will be familiar to Irish fans having fought Jamie Conlan back in November 2015. That night in Dublin, the mulleted South American was knocked out in the fourth round.
Since then, Garzon has gone the eight round distance with former European, Commonwealth, and British flyweight champion Kevin Satchell. The Scouser, also managed by MTK, will feature alongside Barnes on the card in the Titanic City next week, and the bout posed a real opportunity for comparison ahead of a mooted bout between the pair later this year.
For Cliftonville’s Barnes, the experienced opponent will provided a much stiffer test than debut foe Stefan Slavchev – and one who will be more willing to fight rather than focus on survival.

The card next week will be headlined by Commonwealth super flyweight champion Jamie Conlan against former world title challenger Yader Cardoza, and will also feature an Irish super featherweight title clash between Deco Geraghty and James Tennyson, and a BUI Celtic light welterweight fight between Tyrone McKenna and Jake Hanney. Other names on the card include Phil Sutcliffe Jr, Marco McCullough, Con Sheehan, Steven Ward, Joe Fitzpatrick, and Lewis Crocker, as well as English fighters Troy Williamson and the aforementioned Satchell..
