Ormond prepares for July date by sparring former Hyland star Fortuna Stateside
STEPHEN Ormond will prepare for a possible July Dublin return by sparring WBA interim featherweight champion in America over the coming weeks.
Ormond jets to New York with stable mate Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan ahead the Cork fighters middleweight clash in the House of Blues on June 5 and will grab the oppurtuinity to get in some quality sparring with the Lou DiBella fighter.
Ormond, who fought in America early on in his career, before returning home because his partner failed to settle gets the chance to dish out some retribution for fellow Dub and another of ‘The Rock’s’ sparring partners, Patrick Hyland.
Hyland fought the Cuban for the vacated WBA interim strap on the undercard on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez IV on December 8, 2012, but lost out on points.
The sparring helps the WBO European champion prepare for a July fight, which he hopes will spark the return of big time back to Dublin and also provides him the chance to set chins wagging Stateside as he tries to close in on lightweight World title fight.
