Ormond-Luna OFF as Irishman misses weight
Stephen Ormond’s IBF lightweight World title eliminator with Alejandro Luna tonight in Philidelphia has been cancelled.
The bout at the 2300 Arena was called off due to the Dubliner missing weight.
Ormond, who had planned to move to light welterweight before this World title route emerged, was unable to make it down to the 135lb limit.
The Clondalkin 33 year old weighed-in this afternoon at 139.7lbs. Given two hours to lose the excess poundage, Ormond returned at 137lbs.
With the clash cancelled, Ormond apologised on social media and explained that “I was struggling all week to cut weight.”
“That day I took off 12 pounds and could not take anymore off.”
“I’m sorry to the Dropkick Murphy’s, Paschal, Mark, and everyone who tried to push me to make weight.”
“Just nothing in me left to take anymore off.”
“As for now I have got to go home and think about what I’m going to do in future, I just don’t know at the moment.”
