Ormond looking to build on Matthews momentum with Diablo win

He may not be a momentous name but Karim El Ouazghari is the perfect foe to ensure career momentum for Stephen Ormond, claims the Dubliner himself.

Ouazghari doesn’t have the same CV or casual fan appeal as the WBO European Champion’s last opponent, Derry Matthews, but while his name might not ring a bell he ticks all the right boxes for the popular Clondalkin puncher.

‘El Diablo’ is a solid operator who boasts a world ranking. The Spanish fighter has also fought the likes of Kevin Mitchell and John Murray meaning he provides ‘The Rock’ with the perfect opportunity to gain favourable comparisons to big name British fighters.

So while the likes of Mitchell and will not risk an Ormond dust up El Ouazghari, who Ormond is adamant will provide a difficult test, will prove a useful stepping stone toward more big fights and a possible world title.

Speaking to irish-boxing.com about his April 4 ‘This is Belfast’ opponent the BUI Irish Boxer of The Year said

“He fought Kevin Mitchell  and has been it with some of the names around the division. He is ranked too so it’s a chance for me to build toward that World title and impresses. I fight who the team tell me but I didn’t want a no name or a nobody I want to build on the Derry win. That is the only way to improve and this fight gives me the chance to do that. I am focused on this fight but I hope a World title fight is a few more fights away.”
