Ormond: I will fight anyone in March
By Jonny Stapleton
STEPHEN Ormond will return training first thing Monday morning and will be ready to challenge any would be opponent from March.
The Celtic Gym lightweight came under some criticism from promoter Frank Warren yesterday when he elected against taking a fight with Kevin Mitchell on February 10.
However, true to his fighting nature Ormond isn’t allowing any controversy to effect him and will return the training ring next week open to any challenge that comes his way from March on.
‘The Rock’ claims he remains a solid prospect and revealed he would have signed to fight Mitchell if he had more time to prepare and didn’t take a break over the festive period.
Ormond, who did twice agree to fight the English fighter in 2011 only to see the fight fall through, due to no fault of his own, contacted www.irish-boxing.com and said
“I never agreed to taking the fight on that date. My team knew I was taking a break over Christmas and I told them I would not be ready for any fight in February. What happened between them and Frank I am not too sure. I am back in training on Monday and I will be ready in two months time to fight anyone.”
