Ormond to face British Champ Flanagan in World title eliminator?
FORMER Prizefighter winner and current British Champion Terry Flanagan looks set to provide the opposition for Stephen Ormond’s next clash.
‘The Rock’ is rumoured to be fighting the rising Manchester star on the top of a Frank Warren’s annual Nordoff Robbins Charity fight night in London on Monday November 24.
Flanagan, who holds a Prizefighter win over Derry Matthews, probably hasn’t the profile of fellow British lightweights Anthony Crolla, Kevin Mitchell, Derry Matthews or even John Murray as of yet, but is deemed in some quarters as the best British lightweight.
The Manchester ticket seller impressed last time out retiring the teak tough Martin Gethin to claim the British title and could prove the WBO lightweight European champion’s toughest test to date.
Team Ormond, however, believe the Clondalkin fighter is a level above British and indeed European level and will be confident their man can win a fight that could have serious WBO world title ramifications.
Again according to the boxing rumour mil,l Frank Warren is pushing to make the bout a WBO world title eliminator and is hoping to pair the winner with Matchroom’s Anthony Crolla if Terence Crawford as expected vacates the title.
