Micheal O’Reilly Snr ‘100% confident’ son will be cleared to fight in Rio
Micheal O’Reilly will make his Olympic bow in Rio this coming Friday according to his father Micheal O’Reilly Snr.
The Portlaoise BC fighter has been the subject of controversy after it was alleged he failed a drug test.
Upon hearing the news from Sport Ireland of the alleged violation of the Irish Anti-doping Rules, the IABA suspended the European Games middleweight champion and O’Reilly is now awaiting the results of his B sample.
The fighter is currently in Rio, but unable to take part in any official training in the Olympic village.
There hasn’t been much said on the matter from within team Ireland. The IABA have released a statement but confusion remains regarding to what may or will happen next.
Micheal O’Reilly Snr however, is adamant his son will fight in Rio. Speaking to the Sunday World  he claimed he was “100 per cent confident” his son would be given the all clear to fight this Friday.
“It’s a load of s***e. He is not the type to take drugs, far from it. Taking drugs, it’s impossible. He wouldn’t be where he is if was into drugs.”
“I have been speaking to him. He’s disappointed and he’s appealing it, there is nothing more we can do. He is 100 per cent confident he will be cleared. He’s upset and shocked. He never took anything, trust me on that. They have got it wrong, 100 per cent.”
