O’Reilly become fourth Irish EU Medalist while Gardiner and Walsh exit the tournament

MIDDLEWEIGHT Micheal O’Reilly joined Hughie Myers, David Oliver Joyce and Darren O’Neill in the semi finals of the EU Champions with victory in Sofia today.

O’Reilly registered a 2-1 split decision over Georgian Goach Badurashvilli  to become the fourth Irish medalist. Like his fellow semi finalists O’Reilly is assured of at least bronze.

Super heavyweight Dean Gardiner and lighter welterweight Dean Walsh couldn’t match O’Reilly’s feat and exited the tournament,.

Both lost on split decision at the quarter final stage. Gardiner went down to Italian opposition, whilst Walsh excited at the hands of a  Dmitri Galagot from Moldova. after a 28-29, 28-29, 30-27 scorecard.
