The opponent for Stephen Ormond’s World title eliminator has been announced.

The Dublin lightweight will face Mexican-American starlet Alejandro Luna [20(15)-0] in an IBF World title eliminator in Philidelphia on August 5th.

The bout will act as chief support to the David Benavideza v Denis Douglin bout on a Premier Boxing Champions card to be shown live on ESPN at the 2300 Arena in Philly.

The bout was originally due to take place in Vegas on the same date, but has seen a late change.

Ormond secured a World ranking with the IBF back in March when he defeated Marcos Jiminez, who was later found to be benefitting from performance-enhancing steroids, on a Murphy’s Boxing card in Boston.

Following the upheaval in the division, Ormond is now ranked ninth, one place above Luna. The 24 year old Californian last fought in January, inflicting an eighth round retirement on Alan Herrera. El Charro also holds a 2015 points win over former Mexican World champion Cristobal Cruz.

A win against the fellow Al Haymon fighter would put Ormond in line for a shot at the winner of the IBF vacant title clash between Ghanian Richard Commey and Robert Easter Jr.
