Opponent named for Andy Lee comeback fight

Andy Lee [34(24)-3(2)-1] will make his return to the ring after fifteen months out with a fight against a relatively unheralded American.

The 32 year old Limerick southpaw has not fought since losing his WBO title to Billy Joe Saunders, and will make his return on the Gennady Golovkin v Danny Jacobs undercard at the Madison Square Garden in New York on March 18th.

RingTV.com have confirmed that Lee he will face 28 year old KeAndrae Leatherwood [19(12)-3(2)-1] of Birmingham, Alabama.

The fight will be the final contest of the HBO broadcast, immediately before the pay-per-view portion of the bill begins.

Leatherwood was stopped by John Jackson in a light middleweight contest for the WBC Youth title back in 2011. Lee, of course, would score a stunning come-from-behind knockout over Jackson at the Madison Square Garden Arena in 2014. The Alabama middleweight also lost in his only other major fight, being comprehensively outpointed by Hugo Centeno Jr, but comes into this bout on the back of a five-fight winning streak.

Joining Lee on the undercard of Golovkin’s title defence will be WBC super flyweight king Roman Gonzalez who defends his title against Wisaksil Wangek. Also featuring will be former 115lbs champ Carlos Cuadras.
