Opponent confirmed – Larry Fryers fights ‘rising star’ on Tuesday night

Larry Fryers [11(4)-2(0)] wasn’t lying when said he has been handed the chance to change his career this coming June 30.

The New York based Irish fighter told Irish-boxing.com last week that he had been handed the platform and opponent to change his career trajectory.

Today he was confirmed right as Top Rank revealed the line up for their June 30 show, which takes place in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on American TV network ESPN.

The Monaghan fighter will provide opposition for one of Top Rank’s emerging ‘stars’ John Bauza [13(5)-0].

The Puerto Rican, who has declared he wants to be a six weight world champion, hasn’t put a foot wrong since turning over in 2016.

The 22-year-old has taken care of journeymen opponents as expected and has wins over three fighters with winning records.

However, he hasn’t been pushed as hard as the likes of fellow Top Rank fighter Shakur Stevenson and there is no doubt ‘Lethal’ is his toughest fight to date.

It’s also ‘El Terrible’s’ first in just under a year and with the Top Rank ‘Bubble’ cards have played hosts to some sizable upsets of late, Fryers certainly feels he has a chance in the eight round bout.

Alex Saucedo and Sonny Fredrickson take top billing on the card while Josue “The Prodigy” Vargas will seek to increase his winning streak to 11 when he faces the battle-hardened Salvador Briceno in a 10-rounder.

Former U.S. amateur standout Javier Martinez, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will make his professional debut against an opponent to be named in a six-rounder at middleweight.
