Opponent confirmed for Katie Taylor’s U.S. debut
An opponent has finally been confirmed for Katie Taylor‘s American debut this weekend.
The Bray lightweight features prominently on the undercard of the light welterweight bout between Mikey Garcia and Adrien Broner this Saturday (July 29th) at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.
It has been announced by Irish boxing writer Bernard O’Neill that Taylor will fight Texan Jasmin Clarkson [4(0)-8(0)].
The 22 year old southpaw hails from Cedar Hill in the Lone Star State, turned pro just under three years ago, and has since mixed it with some big names.
Clarkson’s loss column includes points reversals to IBF super featherweight title challenger Jennifer Salinas, IBF super featherweight and lightweight title challenger Kimberly Connor, and WBA-WBO light middleweight title challenger Natasha Spence. All of these fights saw Clarkson win rounds off her more esteemed opponents.
The Southerner’s most recent fight came at the start of this month, where she was outpointed over six by Connor.
While she looks to be one of the weaker opponents faced by the Wicklow woman, Clarkson will be second successive southpaw to take on Taylor [5(3)-0] following her triumph over German Nina Meinke on the Joshua-Klitschko undercard at Wembley Stadium, a win which garnered her the WBA International title.
The fight on Saturday night’s card, which also features Cork’s Noely Murphy, will take place over eight two-minute rounds.
