Taylor One win away from RIO

Katie Taylor made the semi final’s of the European Olympic qualifiers this morning and is now just one win away from Rio.

The Olympic gold medal winner defeated Yvonne Bæk Rasmussen of Denmark by unanimous decision.

The legendary boxer will now qualify for the 2016 Olympic’s if she wins her next bout.

There was no such joy for Ceire Smith or Christina Desmond as they both lost their respective quarter finals.

Flyweight Smith was pipped by Ukraine’s Tetyana Kob on a split decision while Desmond was beaten by Hungary’s Petra Szatmari.

Desmond was awarded the first round 10-9 by all three judges, but the Hungarian fought back to claim the win 39-37.

Brendan Irvine and Darren O’Neill continue  the push for Olympic qualification tonight.
