Olympic Qualifiers to take place in Trabzon

The north-eastern Turkish city of Trabzon has been confirmed as the host city for the final Olympic qualifier for European male boxers.
The 2012 AIBA qualifying event will take place at the Hayri Gur Sports Hall in the city between April 13 and 22.
Host nation Turkey has yet to qualify any boxers for the London Olympics, but with home advantage, Eyup Gözgeç, the President of the Turkish Boxing Federation, is confident
“Unfortunately, none of our boxers qualified for the Olympics following the AIBA World Boxing Championships held in Baku last year,  but this qualifying event in Trabzon gives us a good opportunity to find our way back. Be ready to witness the best of our boxers”, he said.
Ireland’s Darren O’Neill, John Joe Nevin and Michael Conlan qualified for the London Olympics
at the Baku World Championships.
Ireland will be aiming for seven Olympic berths in Trabzon, while Katie Taylor and the Irish women’s team will be targeting  three Olympic places at the AIBA Women’s World Championships in China in May.
