O’Kane to fight for the right to challenge for World title on GGG v Lemieux under card

Eamonn O’kane will fight Tureano Johnson for the right to become IBF middleweight mandatory challenger in Madison Square Garden on October 17.

The Derry middleweight will also get a ring side view of the fighter he will challenge for the strap if he over comes Johnson.

King Kane’s World title eliminator plays out on the under card of reigning IBF champion David Lemieux’s World title fight with WBA champion and knock out specialist Gennady Golovkin.

It’s not only a massive occasion but a massive opportunity for O’Kane, 33 on the HBO PPV-televised card.

O’Kane’s opponent Johnson’s is being lined up for bigger and better things and by the way his promoter, Gary Shaw, who has struck a deal with Golden Boy for the 18-1 fighter O’Kane is being brought over as an opponent, despite the fact he holds the higher ranking between the pair.

“Tureano is a great fighter and will beat O’Kane. He will go on to win the world title,” said Shaw to ESPN.

“Tureano Johnson has proven himself to be a top contender in the middleweight division,”

“This year, the middleweight division has catapulted itself back into the forefront of boxing with a caliber of talent reminiscent of legendary fighters like Carlos ‘Escopeta’ Monzon, ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler and Bernard ‘The Alien’ Hopkins. Johnson has demonstrated his ability to become a champion and with Golden Boy Promotions at his side, he has the opportunity to grow into a top middleweight of this era.”
