O’Kane: I would love a shot at IBF World Champion Sam Soliman

EAMONN ‘King’ O’Kane is determined to move into Sam Soliman and World title contention and believes victory on the massive Titanic Showdown card this coming Saturday will increase his tilt chances.

The Prizefighter winner and Irish middleweight champion fights Virgilijus Stapulionis for the IBF Inter-continental title in the Titanic Quarter on the massive Carl Frampton Kiko Martinez II clash.

The Derry middleweight is already eligible to challenge the veteran considering he is ranked 10 in the current ratings, but a win Saturday should see him improve on that ranking.

Indeed O’Kane believes a victory via a commanding performance could see him take a significant step toward the veteran champ, who Matthew Macklin also has eyes for.

“I am ranked ten by the IBF, so a win on Saturday night would move me up the rankings and I would love a shot at their World Champion Sam Soliman,” O’Kane told the Belfast Newsletter.

“I feel I am at that level and I want to put on a commanding performance and get the victory,” he added before discussing Saturday’s fight.

“He is a good boxer, has a high workrate and he can punch a bit as well. But we will see what happens on Saturday night. I have sparred over 135 rounds and I feel fit and strong.”
