Nonito Donaire willing to travel for Frampton fight
WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire [37(24)-3(1)] has reiterated his desire to fight, among others, Carl Frampton.
Indeed, the American-based Filipino has no problems travelling across the Atlantic to take on ‘The Jackal.’
Donaire, a four-weight World champion, was thrilled by the WBA featherweight title fight between Leo Santa Cruz and Frampton and would love to share the ring with either.
First however the Filipino Flash must defend his 122lbs belt against Jessie Magdaleno on November 5th in Las Vegas on the Vargas-Pacquiao undercard. However, he is eyeing big fights with the major names in his own division and at featherweight (where he held Frampton’s WBA belt for a period in 2014).
“The future is open for me, I love challenges,” Donaire told Omnisport.
“I’ll fight anyone at 126 lbs and, at the same time, I’ll fight anybody at 122 lbs.”
“I always fight anyone who challenges me. I’m just excited to be thinking about facing the champions in my weight class and above.”
Expressing his admiration for the Fight of the Year contender which Frampton and Santa Cruz put on in New York in July, Donaire described how “it was an incredible fight. Both guys came out there with all their hearts and that’s what we love to see – fighters just giving it all they’ve got.”
“We would like to see it again, and I would like to see myself with them.”
The 33 year old also revealed his willingness for a transatlantic bout with either Frampton, or Bury’s Scott Quigg, noting how “I would love to fight in the UK, I’ve never been there but I would love to fight out there.”
“I would like to challenge Frampton as well as Scott Quigg.”
