New Debut Date for Connor Coyle

Derry’s Connor Coyle has been handed a refixed date for his debut in America

The Commonwealth Games bronze medalist has relocated to St Petersburg, Florida to embark on a pro career where he will campaign, eventually, at light middleweight.

The former St Joseph’s ABC man, who will be trained by Jim McLoughlin in the paid game, was initially due to make his bow this Friday, but will instead box professionally for the first time on Friday October 7th at the A la Carte Pavilion in nearby Tampa.

The nine-strong men’s team from the 2014 Commonwealth Games has seen seven defections to the pros (Coyle, Ruairi Dalton, Joe Fitzpatrick, Sean McGlinchey, Steven Ward), and it is expected that Steven Donnelly, Mick Conlan, and Paddy Barnes will all follow suit very soon.

The refixed date for Coyle however means that Derry stablemate John Cooley [1(0)-0] will miss out on the card due to prior family commitments back in Ireland.
