Nevin: my comeback is right up there with Olympic success- Mayweather wouldn’t have recovered from that shot!
JOHN Joe Nevin has equated victory on a small hall show in America last weekend with his London 2012 silver medal winning heroics.
The first round KO victory over local boy Calvin Stifford won’t come with anything like the adulation Olympic success did, but for the Mullingar man it prompted a similar feeling of elation.
Nevin put behind him the worst ‘six months of his life’ when he returned from a two broken legs to stop his second pro foe within 86 seconds and was understandably delighted after his victory.
Nevin told the Independent: “I don’t think that Floyd Mayweather would have got back up after that shot – bang, straight on the chin. I knocked him clean into next week. After what happened, this is right up there with the Olympics, along the best feelings of my life.
“I cherish it all the more after what happened. I told you my dreams was to win an Olympic medal and a world title. I’ve achieved one of those ambitions -and I will achieve the other.
“I may fight again before Christmas, maybe twice, we’ll see. Right now I’m just delighted to have my second win.”
