Murtagh wants Coyle clash

Lee Murtagh wants to fight Henry Coyle for the Irish title.

Westerner, Coyle claimed the WBF world title in front of a packed Royal Theatre Crowd and a sizeable TG4 Tv audience, but Murtagh, who beat Darren Cruise on the same show, has not interest in the maligned world strap.

The Leeds based fighter, who registered his 31st win over novice Steve Spence recently, wants a domestic dust up with the Chicago based fighter.

“I am not sure what Henry Coyle is doing after what was a great show. I hoped there would be another date in Mayo announced by now. I am not interested in WBF title or any other title than the Irish title. I feel my best weight is light middle and myself boxing Henry would be a natural for the Irish title on TG4.”

The 37 year old is really on a mission to secure the Irish strap. If Coyle isn’t an option, and in fairness the Mayo man might have his eyes on another international opponent, the Leeds fighter wants to face Willie Thompson or Ryan Greene.

“I would love to box at the Kings Hall in November and would like to meet the Willie Thompson v Ryan Greene possibly for the Irish light middle weight title. I’d like to know the situation of Neil Sinclair the current light middleweight champion,” Murtagh added before expressing his discontent with his latest win.

“I wasn’t happy with the win. It was a 6×2 minutes contest n I specifically asked for 6x3s. I have nothing lined up as of yet although Derek Roche of rebel promotions is interested in promoting the Irish title in Leeds at the Irish centre.”
