Murray steps up
18 August 2010 – Cormac Campbell
Andy Murray will take a major step up in class when he faces Johnny Nolasco in the chief supporting contest to McCloskey vs Morrison in Letterkenny on October 2.
The unbeaten Cavan lightweight, 21-0 (12KO) goes head to head with the dangerous Dominican, 18-4-4 (8KO) over 10 rounds at the Aura, knowing that he is within touching distance of a shot at the European title.
According to promoter Brian Peters, Murray is in for a tough nights work.
It’s time now for Andy to step things up, he said.
Nolasco has only been beaten by World class operators and he is a real dangerman. He’s a former Olympian and he was an exceptional amateur with a record of 288 wins and just 15 defeats so it really is an acid test for Andy.
He’s already very highly rated in Europe but I think it’s important that he makes his mark on the World scene as well and a win over Nolasco will certainly do that.
October 2s card in Letterkenny will also feature Dublin’s unbeaten featherweight prospect Patrick Hyland, reigning Irish heavyweight champion Coleman Barrett, Cork based Cubans Alexei Acosta, Mike Perez and Luis Garcia, Mayo’s unbeaten super featherweight Finbarr Eade and the pro debut of Donegal’s Michael McLaughlin.
The bill will be televised on RTE television. Tickets for the Hunky Dorys Fight Night priced from E40 go on sale from 9am on Wednesday, September 1 from Ticketmaster.ie / 0818 719300, The Aura, Letterkenny: 074 9106422, The Radisson Blu, Letterkenny: 074 9194444, Eurospar, Dungiven: 028 77741245 or Julie, Dungiven: 07745 698372.
