Murphy’s reveal Doheny fight date and target Frampton rematch
Muprhy’s Boxing hope to build TJ Doheny toward an all-Irish World title fight with IBF World champion Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton.
Doheny, who beat Frampton in an National Senior semi final back in 2006, secured a World ranking when he claimed the PABA Continental title as early as his fifth fight.
Now having added some experience to his CV the Portlaoise BC graduate has joined forces with Murphy’s boxing, who have strong links with Al Haymon and Lou Dibella and promote Spike O’Sullivan and Stephen Ormond, to launch an assault on World level.
The 14-0 29 year old makes his American debut on Murphy’s Boxing, Saint Patrick’s Clash on March 19 in a PABA super bantamweight defense.
And in a statement released by the promotional company today they revealed a World title fight with Frampton is on their hit list.
“Doheny looks to his U.S debut as the start of his climb to the super bantamweight championship of the World, in a hopeful all Irish bout against IBF Carl Frampton.
Doheny wouldn’t as of yet be on Frampton’s radar, if the champ overcomes Scott Quigg the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Gary Russell Jr, Shingo Wake and Gullerimo Rigondeaux will all be names touted as next opponents, but Doheny will be hoping he can continue his progression until he is mentioned in such circles.
