‘Most Powerful man in Boxing’ Al Haymon signs two Irish stars?
Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan and Stephen Ormond have signed with ‘the most powerful man in boxing’ Al Haymon if rumour is to believed.
Sources Stateside told Irish-boxing.com Haymon, who advises more than 100 fighters, including Floyd Mayweather and has brought boxing back to terrestrial television in the US, has added the Irish duo to his growing stable of PBC boxers.
The Celtic Warriors Gym pair are both promoted by Murphy’s Boxing, but Haymon, who never gives interviews, looks set to come in as an adviser and is said to be keen to use both on PBC cards.
IBF world champion Carl Frampton has signed a similar deal with the American and made his PBC beating Alejandro Gonzalez Jr live on CBS in front of a 2.4 million TV audience.
The Haymon link up has made it easier for ‘The Jackal’ to crack America and has also ensured fights with the likes of Leo Santa Cruz and other known names around his weight are easier to make.
Cork middleweight ‘Spike’ and Dublin lightweight Ormond, who will fight in America on October 10, could benefit similarly and if, as rumoured, they have signed with Haymon, big fights on big cards could certainly be on the horizon.
