New York’s Irish Seanie Monaghan scored a comprehensive victory last night at the Aviator Sports Centre in Brooklyn. The light heavyweight of Navan parentage widely outpointed Chicago’s Don ‘Da Bomb’ George in the headline fight of a Top Rank card televised on truTV.

The hugely popular Long Islander pummeled George over ten rounds one-sided rounds. , who to his credit, never went down and continued despite breaking his right hand just two rounds in.

The final judges scorecards read 99-91 x2 and 100-90 all in favour of the all-action slugger Monaghan.

With the victory, the former builder added more continental honours to his collection, withe the vacant WBO NABO title joining the WBC Continental Americas belt around his waist.

Monaghan has now stretched his unbeaten record to 26 fights, with 16 by stoppage, and afterwards reiterated his calls for a World title shot, with WBA regular champion Juergen Braehmer top of his list.

Indeed a title shot seems likely one way or another in the near future, with the 34 year old being ranked in the Top 10 with all four major sanctioning bodies.

Also featuring on the untelevised undercard of the show was Mullingar’s Olympic silver medalist John Joe Nevin who had an impressive stoppage victory over Jose Guzman.
