Minsk Multi-Nations – Day 1 Results and Day 2 Fixtures

Martin Keenan advanced to the last-eight of the Liventsev Memorial in Minsk, Belarus last night.

The Rathkeale BC super-heavyweight beat Dmitry Makarevich on a unanimous decision in the last bout on the program at the 18 nation tournament.

Beforehand, Regan Buckley went out on a unanimous decision to Nodari Barbaigze of Belarus and Eugene McKeever was edged on a split by Barbaigaize’s compatriot Yauheni Marachauk in a bout the Irish corner of Michael Carruth and Eoin Pluck felt could have gone either way.

Keenan will be back in last-eight action today along with Jordan Moore, James McGivern, Brett McGinty and Kevin Sheehy.

Buckley and McGivern entered the multi-nations in Belarus at flyweight (52kg) and light welterweight (64kg) respectively, both moving up one class.

This is in anticipation of a reconfiguring of the men’s weight classes, with light flyweight (49kg) and lightweight (60kg) being taken out and featherweight and light welterweight being moved to 57kg and 63kg respectively.
