Mickey ‘Boy’ Delaney and Pierce O’Leary progress to Euro quarter finals
Mickey “Boy” Delaney and Pierce O’Leary advanced to the quarter-finals of the European Schoolboy Championships in Keszthely, Hungary today.
But Lorcan Hurley, Conal Ross and Dylan Cadwell bowed out of the tournament. Please see below attachments for today’s results and Day 3 program.
Delaney recorded a convincing unanimous decision over Kraus Gradus of the Netherlands, while O’Leary beat Arthur Tuniyev on a split decision.
Hurley was involved in an extremely tight 44.5kg three-rounder with England’s Henry Thomas and Ross lost on a unanimous verdict to James McMeekin, also of England.
Cadwell’s bout with Andrey Lyulyakov, which was slated for tomorrow, took place today, Cadwell losing out to the Russian.
“All of the team gave it their all today and we saw some fine performances. The squad will have a very busy day tomorrow,” said Irish coach Paddy Gallagher.
Fourteen Irish boxers will be in last-eight action tomorrow in Keszthely.
