Mick Conlan outlines 2018 fight schedule

The SSE Odyssey Arena in Belfast tonight hosts its second big boxing card in four weeks.

Following on from Ryan Burnett’s bantamweight unification win against Zhanat Zhakiyanov last month, Carl Frampton makes his homecoming and Jamie Conlan challenges for his world title on a bumper BT Sport card in the Titanic City.

The big Belfast arena shows look set to continue into the new year, with further fights for Burnett, a mooted dated for Carl Frampton, and now Top Rank starlet Mick Conlan has confirmed that he too will be joining in on the action in 2018.

2015 World Amateur champion Conlan [4(4)-0] has long spoken of a homecoming, with proposed dates late this year being pushed back, and the California-based pro has confirmed that he will return to Belfast for a headline appearance the SSE Odyssey Arena next Summer.

The fight date, in late May or early June will come following a busy start to the year for the Falls Road featherweight who will return to The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York on St Patrick’s Day for another headline appearance before a possible appearance in Boston.

Speaking on the42.ie, Conlan outlined his plans and revealed that “I think we have The Garden booked for St Patrick’s Day – Boston will be in there at some stage next year.”

“End of May, start of June, we’ll be in the Odyssey.”

Conlan, who turns 26 tomorrow, is currently back in Belfast on a flying visit for his older brother’s IBF world title tilt against champion Jerwin Ancajas of the Philippines.

The 2012 Olympic bronze medalist is also deep in preparations for his own next fight, which will take place on Saturday December 9th at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Fighting where he made his debut, Conlan features prominently on the WBO super featherweight title fight between double Olympic gold medalists Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux, live on ESPN.

The MTK Global fighter will face Argentinian Luis Fernando Molina [7(2)-3(0)-1] over six rounds.
