Michaela Walsh secures SILVER at EU Championships
Belfast bantamweight Michaela Walsh guaranteed Ireland’s first silver medal of the EU Championships today in Italy.
The Monkstown fighter defeated Sweden’s Helena Envall to move into Saturday’s final.
Here she will meet Germany’s Azize Nemani. The pair met in an International Round Robin in Wittenburg back in 2014, with Walsh emerging victorious.
There was disappointment however for Dervla Duffy who was defeated by Ornella Wahner of Germany, a silver medalist at the last tournament, in their featherweight quarter final.
Kelly Harrington and Grainne Walsh will be in lightweight and welterweight semi final action on Friday, tomorrow is a rest day, taking on Italy’s Irma Testa and Englishwoman Sandy Ryan respectively.
