Michael O’Reilly books place in EU Championship final
MICHAEL O’Reilly secured EU Championship silver with a split decision semi final win in Sofia today.
The 2011 European Youth silver medallist beat Hungary’s Balazs Bacska on a split decision to move to within one win of gold.
O’Reilly won by a strange 29-28, 29-28, 26-30 score card. The win also see’s O’Reilly get Irish revenge on a fighter who beat ex-Irish elite champion Willie McLaughlin in 2009 European Union final in Denmark.
O’Reilly will now meet France’s Christian Ossomo, the current Chemistry Cup gold medallist, who received a walkover versus Moldova’s Victor Carapcevschi (injury) in today’s corresponding semi-final in Saturday’s 75kg decider.
